I Remember When. . .

I remember when. . .

I as a white divorced mother of three couldn’t get credit

Even though I paid the credit card bills on my ex’s joint account!

I remember when I couldn’t get an intern position because corporate office knew I dated an Olive skinned American Veteran

I remember when I wasn’t served because I had assisted an African American Soldiers wife comfort a crying baby.

I remember when. . .

African Americans weren’t allowed to sit in the front of a bus.

I remember when. . .

There were no Mahogany colored children in my school and they boarded in another city to get an education

I remember when. . .

Colleges of the same religious denomination in the same city were separated by skin hue and forbidden to mix

I remember when. . .

An elderly black gentleman would step to the back of the line because a white person came in the line

I remember when . . .

The back of the line and the back of the bus was the norm

I remember when. . .

My station in life was subservient to any male regardless of experience or education

I remember when!

And we are moving forward without tripping over those who. . .

Use violence and burning and killing to portray a people who only want justice and equality guaranteed by the Constitution of the United States of America.

“I pledge allegiance to the flag of the United States of America, one nation under God indivisible with liberty and justice for all.”

I remember when I also learned that in school!

We’ve come a long way, Baby!

And we ain’t going back!
