The Colors

THE COLORS

The red, white and blue of that flag says so many things to me –
My first speech contest
“What the Flag Means to me”
Blowing in the breeze at the ball game-
Pledging allegiance each of my grade school days –
And yes my father’s story of returning from France at the end of World War I
He was on a hospital ship
They took Old Glory down
And raised the black flag of death
And the Flag that rests in my cedar chest
It was given to me at my Dads funeral by a Soldier
So guess what?
Not 45 nor Vietnam Can keep me from proudly flying
That flag that stands for harmony After the loss of purity
From soldiers of so many long gone !
My Country! My Constitution! My Old Glory!
